This is for all of the people on Newsvine, that are anti-gun ownership. I have observed over the last 53 years or so what I want to call the " Bad Apple Syndrome".

Let me explain, here in the USA we have a " Bad Apple Syndrome ", this is when someone does something wrong, we want to fix it, by throwing out the whole bushel. Let someone get hurt at work, or choke on a hot dog, they want to change the rules that apply to all Americans. Also, our religious beliefs. Companies, Government they all do it. Instead of dealing with the person that has the problem they want to punish everyone.

Why should I give up my gun rights because a few nut jobs can't or won't follow the rules ? I will concede that if we out law guns we will prevent the emotional, spur of the moment, get even, accidental Deaths, injuries from guns. BUT, we will not prevent these types of acts from being committed. People will still continue to fly off the handle and hurt other people. They will just find another tool to use.

BE SURE AND WATCH THIS VIDEO - even the cops did not have guns and the driver is getting the best of them. I would be willing to bet the video does not show the a$$ whooping the driver got from the cops afterwards.

This is not written to change any anti-gun people's minds. I doubt that anything short of a family member or someone close to them, being in harms way, and having a gun close by to save them would do it. Even then some will still say that the gun is bad, people are good.

The main point is I like and use guns. Guns are a part of my heritage. I don't like having to give them up because a small percentage of BAD PEOPLE. WE all need to get back to basic COMMON SENSE.

Which is a future topic, DEATH OF COMMON SENSE. http://infohost.nmt.edu/~armiller/commonsen.htm

I hope I'm not butting in. I guess even a clueless Newsviner like me can find you, ladogg. All I did was click on your name on a different thread to find your article, but I don't know if that's the best or easiest way to find articles of interest.

Your "bad apple" analogy fits so many scenarios for how society wrongly handles things today. Today, we discover that hot dog shapes are dangerous, because people don't know how to take small bites and chew before swallowing ... tomorrow, we have the Food Police warning parents that 10,000 calories of Big Macs and supersized fries and soda per day are hazardous to their sedentary 10 year-old who weighs 200 lbs and has diabetes.

I'm not a spring chicken, nor am I skinny. But I know what I do wrong and acknowledge that the only person to blame is ... ME. It's not rocket science - Why can't others figure this out?

Your last link says it all. I received it in email a few years ago. It's always easier to blame someone or something for our lack of common sense. RIP ... Common Sense.

Great article.

since we are friends now it is easy, look at the symbols for updates in the upper left corner right below the newsvine.com. if you have conversation tracker turned on you get 3 more icons.

your home icon that tells you someone commented on your seeds

a comment symbol that tells you that someone commented on your comment anywhere

then a cloud symbol that tells you that your friends have made a comment

if you click on any of them a drop down will give your articles, then click on the article of choice.

if, i have not helped you ask more questions and i will try again

ohhhh is THAT how it works? All I've ever done is read articles, commented, and clicked on Start Tracking at the bottom of this page to get "New Comments" at the bottom but most of the time the articles don't appear. I never paid attention to those icons at the top!

Thanks for your help, and believe me .... when, not IF, I need more help I will definitely ask you!

Oh wowwww! I just went to the top and did as you said .... there's a whole other world up there! Thank you!!!!!

Ladogg,

I agree with you and liked your article. It is irritating (such as the food articles) to see things change all because some one had difficulty with the item. Or because someone just had to find out "what would happen if" which is a really necessary step, but at least take responsibility if things go wrong!

What I take issue with guns, is not so much as people having them but that they won't take resposibility for them especially if things go wrong.

For protection yes it is good to have guns. But when those guns are found by kids, and then kids shoot somebody just who really is at fault?

Looking forward to Common-sense articles. Welcome to newsvine

sushicat - i re-read your comment and should have added this.

But when those guns are found by kids, and then kids shoot somebody just who really is at fault?

it has a lot to do with the parents. all of my children and grand kids, male and female are taught at a very early age (some as young as 6) the proper safety, respect, and use of a firearm. i will bring the guns out and let them touch, feel and handle them. this takes a lot of curiosity out of them and they think the guns are not a big deal.

then i take them out and show them what a bullet will do to a watermelon, they get real impressed when the melon explodes. this pretty much takes care of the ooohhh factor.

but, i also, keep my guns locked up and in a safe place. but, if a kid is determined to get a gun it won't matter.

to answer your question point blank it is the owner of the gun.

    hello ladogg

I gave my son a .22 auto for his 6th birthday, along with a locking gun rack to hang in his room. I have 1 key he had the other. He was intelligent, cautious and respected guns as a tool as we lived on a farm. By age 8 he had begun hunting in the woods on our property by himself. Never a single problem.

    Why?

Because he was taught about guns, gun safety and the responsibilities that come with gun ownership. The parents are responsible for teaching the child gun owner responsibility, and it is the parents responsibility to TRUTHFULLY evaluate their child to see if he/she are capable of understanding the size and scope of the requirements to be a good gun citizen.

ladogg and dr.evans ... So this is where you are. I was answering you folks on the Hillary thread! Slow start today ... too much late night food talk.

You're both correct about gun safety and who's responsible for teaching children that safety and respect for firearms. The "mystique" about guns has to become matter-of-fact and explained to kids in ways they can understand. The watermelon model is a good example - very visual impact.

Sweet, Tom. It was only last week that ladogg taught me to look at the upper left icons for tracking. Until then, I was relying only on "New Comments" at the bottom of the page. I'm a late bloomer. (see 2.3 forward)
