I don't know, IMO, it was kind of lopsided. I'm wondering, in a poll like this, who CAN beat her? I know there were those, and I was among them, that wished that she had run instead of Obama. Still wish she would, can just hope.

I send an email everyday to Christie, maybe he will get tired of me cyber stalking him and run.

Marco Rubio is the former Speaker of the House and served 8 years in the Florida House of Representatives. He is for lower taxes, better schools, lean, efficient government and free market empowerment. He is the son of Cuban immigrants.

He too is a no nonsense conservative and will put Obama out on the curb where he belongs with the rest of the trash!

He BEAT THE PANTS off of our current Gov. Charlie Crist who knew he was losing the GOP vote so he flipped to Independent and STILL lost!

Yow, Fed ..... a Christie/Rubio ticket would really be awesome. I know only a little about Rubio, but your endorsement just sealed the deal for me. Christie says no for 2012. His gov term is up in 2013. He's hinted at 2016. I don't think we can survive another 4 of Obama.

And look at the names and how musical and poetic they sound. Roll their names on your tongue .... Chris Christie ------ Marco Rubio. Each of their names flow ... Perfect together.

not like (gag) "mmm ... Barack Hussein Obama ... mmm" --- blech.

Just popping in for a minute here .... Fed .... That $2000 was exposed by Holder and the DOJ right after 11/2. Forgive me if I'm repeating myself .... Christie overspent on those hotel bills around 6 years ago when he was US Attorney and this is all Holder and Obama can nail him for. What I read was that he wasn't able to find hotels within the alloted limits. Not sure. I'll try to find the article from my regional newspaper.

I'll gladly pony up the money and stuff it in Holder's freakin mouth.

      http://www.state.nj.us/governor/contact/ ---- Christie's email address.

Back in an hour or so. It's either tonight or Friday that O'Reilly's interviewing GWB. Be good everyone.

Bush showed last night that no matter what happened during the last 2 yrs of his term, that he is a class act. Compare his calm demeanour to obama's rants and raves, who better portrays an American President. Not because of his skin color but because of the air of dignity he displays, instead of the animated fake body language of Obama strutting about the stage like an evangelical preacher. Much more suited to a community organizer than a President of the United States.

So now I have stated my UNBIASED opinion let the blasting begin as I am sure since I disagree with Obama's actions I will now be called a racist....... but only by the real racist on this thread.

Tom -- There were times during Bush's presidency where I felt that he didn't seem "strong" enough when talking to the press. But now, after I've watched his interviews with Lauer (videos are on MSNBC somewhere or I can email you the starting point because I haven't finished watching them), Hannity, but especially O'Reilly. I see a different man - confident, at peace with himself, very few regrets, and isn't bothered by what Obama and the press say about him.

What impressed me a lot is his respect of the "OFFICE" of the presidency, defending ALL Americans, and upholding dignity. I still don't see that from Obama. Except for GWB promoting his book, he doesn't want to be an ex-president like Carter and Clinton and always in the limelight. I think he's a humble man who is proud to have served our country even when people think he's a buffoon.

Re: Obama (I'll try to make this short but you know I never succeed) --- You call Obama's body language strutting, etc. My first impression is always a wannabe NBA hoops star. Watch him coming down the steps of AF 1 or coming onto a stage.... semi-trot with arms jiggling at the waist, fists clasped... "Hey world, look at me! I'm awesome!" All we need are more fist-bumps. How presidential (sarcasm).

If these few Obama criticisms make me a racist, I'll repeat what Christie tells people .... Bring it on. I'd say the same about any US elected clown who apologizes to the world, bows to enemies, doesn't uphold federal law (illegal immigration), and doesn't care that the USA is in deep sh*t and that he's become a serious contributor to the problem.

        -----------

On a different tack: To y'all --- I went to the supermarket today, saw cornbread in the bakery, and bought a small pan of it. I'll blame y'all for the 3 pounds I gain. (just kidding)

Hope you got some unsalted butter to put on it. BTW you can buy jiffy or Martha White corn bread mix for about .50 a box, that makes 6-8 muffins. It is sweet and firm. Be sure to use beer for the liquid and chop 2 jalapeno peppers and mix in the dough. great with chili. only takes 20 min. start to finish.

Tom --- As a matter of fact, I did buy sweet (unsalted) butter today and like it on corn muffins/bread. But, jalapenos and beer? I like each of them separately, but mixed? I'll reserve judgment until I try it. A box of Jiffy would be less expensive for sure ... I paid over $3.00 for this one that I bought today.

Fed --- You know that cornbread I mentioned? Gone! I did have a couple of partners in crime even though it was MY cornbread. Little did ladogg think that his thread would turn to food!

Did you get to Barnes and Noble? How was it?

Yes, the Bush family has always been a class act. Laura's been badmouthed as mealy-mouthed because she champions education and reading and for being dowdy because she wears conservative suits and elegant gowns (as opposed to muscle-armed rock star Michelle who wears a skirt, tee shirt and sweater outfit or flamboyant Wonder Bra gowns when hosting or visiting world leaders).

Michelle is definitely not in the same elegance class as Jackie, Nancy, Barbara, or Laura. I'm sure that on any other thread I'd be called a racist hater for saying that, and that's not true at all. I just have a mind-set for how USA leaders and their spouses should present themselves to the world in diplomatic situations.

ladogg - I'm really not surprised by the poll responses. "The bloom is off the rose" and, as dr. evans said, "The honeymoon is over." I'm an independent who leans toward conservative, but if I were given this choice, I'd have chosen Clinton. I hope that no one comes here to start in with nonsense like, "You 'hate' Obama because he's black." I, for one, am so sick of race card BS. That poll clearly shows that the group still overwhelmingly in favor of Obama is black. That, to me, indicates that race favoritism still overrules blacks' logical and informed voting responsibility.

If I were to pick the 2012 candidates, I'd definitely start with Chris Christie (NJ gov) for the Republican ticket. US Attorney - spectacular regarding corruption. Governor - awesome (powerful teachers union, state unions, and senators HATE him because he's reining in the union leaders' outrageous personal spending sprees). He closed down this ARC mega-billion NY/NJ train tunnel saying, "We are broke. We can't AFFORD this." The only "dirt" his opposition found so far is that he spent around $2,000.00 for hotels that he shouldn't have spent. He insists that he's not running in 2012, but, who knows? I'd even say that Jan Brewer might make a good VP - that'll give Obama plenty of fodder to scream about illegal immigration and tell us how he's "controlling" it! (NOT)

I don't know who I'd pick for the Democrat ticket, but Hillary should make another go at it. She's level-headed and much more experienced than Obama. I think that what did her in was (some) Americans' racial enthusiasm to make Obama the first "black" president and those who said "Obama's going to make sure that my mortgage is paid" as if Obama was going to write them a check. No personal responsibility, no living within your means ... just "somebody will take care of me." UGH. Even former Obama cheerleaders have learned that what they "hoped" for didn't "change" anything for the better.

Good article! Can you adopt me as a Southerner? I want to say "Y'all" like y'all do! Hee hee!

As to the race card...he is NOT black, he is mulatto, perhaps THAT is what "bothers" them so!

You are right...they thought he was going to pay off all their mortgages, send them big checks every month...he let them down!

Fed -- You're sweet! Thank you! It's getting really chilly up here. I'm pickling the last of the tomatoes this weekend. Got a batch from my neighbor that she was going to throw out because of frost. Y'all come up here and I'll give you some! If I y'all-ed, you'd make fun of me, because I'd probably sound like "yawwwl" - Ha, ha!

Fed - we're not allowed to say mulatto anymore - It's not PC. I'm seriously SICK of everyone ignoring his mother's side. When they remember, he's .... "bi-racial" and I say pfffffft on that.

Christie .... he's my man. Doing great for NJ in less than a year. I watched O'Reilly tonight. What I said about that $2000? It happened around 6 years ago when Christie was US Atty. It was HOLDER and DOJ that started this after Tuesday's election. So judicial is interfering in politics/legislature! They're running scared and want to stomp Christie down before he gains a more positive profile than he already has. They can't get away with calling him a fat pig, so they pounce on $2000 as if he "stole" mega-millions from us and went on a South East Asia or Spain vacation. (I do wish that he'd lose weight though - for his own health)

So NJ I guess the big question is can you eat what we eat or have we got to bring in one of them New Yoke city chefs?

We would show off the 1st night with Fatback, Collards and Hocakes of cornbread. darn now I'm hungry.

(Not worrying about being off-topic, because this is your thread) ....

Nah, I don't need NYC chefs. Stop making fun of my accent. Besides, it's NYers who say New Yawk ... not New Jerseyans.

I make two VERY good collards dishes (one is Brazilian and served with black beans/rice) and I love cornbread. So there. What's fatback? Bacon? Is a hocake a hot cake (pancake)? Up here, "ho" isn't a nice word, evans .... you can ask Don Imus about that!

OK, here's the deal ... you folks make fatback and hocakes and I'll bring Taylor Ham Pork Roll and REAL bagels. Taylor Ham is a NJ product - you can't find it even in NYC ... decadently greasy and delicious.

All this food talk has made me hungry, too. Looking forward to that famous southern hospitality (Scotch and smokes included)!

Also ... maybe I should have reworded a post I made on ladogg's thread about common sense. Food names in the US seem to be different. Interesting.

Ok here is the Southern food break down in case you meet some one from New Jewursey ( jersy.)

Collards are only made on top of the range with bacon drippings and salt with a chunk of bacon or ham hocks in it........We don't eat casseroles, unless we are to weak to eat real meat and potato's type food.

Fat Back is a part of the pig around the belly. It is like bacon but no lean only fat. It is salt cured and cooked with the rind on for crunch. Makes your BP go up just thinking about it.

Hoecakes or hocakes are small oval flat cakes similar to a pancake but it is made from white/yellow cornmeal blend fried on a griddle in bacon drippings. The name comes from the slaves of the old south that would take cornmeal to the fields and would cook it on the blades of their hoes to have a hot meal. Thus the name and shape has always stuck.

Did not mean to drop into history mode. May be ladogg won't delete us for being off topic.lol

Yep, I know that collards are made on the stove with bacon and/or ham. I learned from my student teaching mentor. At the risk of sounding "racist," (have to be careful these days) she is black. Awesome teacher, singer, pianist, and cook. After 35+ years, we remain in contact. She's in Ohio and I visit her and her husband every couple of years. The other recipe is Brazilian (again from blacks/slaves period of that country) also on the stove top but with garlic and lemon. Works well with black beans and rice.

Fatback sounds artery-clogging and BP raising for sure. Is it a hot meal or what I can get up here in the pretzel and chips aisle called pork rinds?

I've heard of hoecakes but never had them. Sounds very tasty. At the risk of appearing northern ... do you put maple syrup on them? (I'll probably hear evans laughing all the way up here)

I think ladogg will be cool with off-topic like this. Right, dogg?

so are you mad at me or what? you don't ever call me by my last name?

Not laughing did that several years when a friend was visiting from Maine, he put syrup on them but he did use the southern cane syrup. Best to eat as you would cornbread. If you want some good southern recipes I will send you some by email to try.

The fat back you get in the meat case it usually comes in 1 lb pack and get the butcher to slice it about 1/8 of an inch thick. you can bake it or fry it. It is delicious, I limit myself to about 1 time every month.

Most definitely understand, I really had not thought anything about it. Most people want to stay a little anonymous on the net, and I have no problem at all keeping your identity that way. NJ and I email and she doesn't want her name on the vine, that is why I just call her NJ.

I have always been very open even in the world of Internet. I guess because in my profession I have to talk to so many people of all backgrounds that I am accustomed to being under the microscope. If I had known how people on this site would use your education, beliefs, accomplisments and even charitable works against you I would probably be posting as Jethro bubba or such.

@ Dr. Evans -- "so are you mad at me or what? you don't ever call me by my last name?" --- Did you direct that at me? I'm confused. I've always called you Dr. Evans here - I slipped and forgot the Dr. once or twice and keep forgetting that it's OK to call you Tom. Yes, I'd like your recipes. I'm always willing to try new things.

@Fed -- is "yins guys"the same as y'all? NYers and some NJyans along the Hudson River say youse (pronounced use), youse guys, or my favorite .... yizz. Yuck. I had to quit around 3AM - too hungry and sleepy! Slept until almost 9. Never had Corny Corn Bread - may I have the recipe? I don't have a cast iron skillet - will a stainless steel one work as well? Hmmm.... there's a thought ... add cast iron skillet to my Christmas list.

@ladogg -- I'm correcting a mistake: I called this Tom's thread when it's yours. Sorry! He's right about how I keep my real name private here except with people I feel comfortable with. There's a good reason. Around the time of Obama's campaigning, there was a Viner who was stalking me, threatened me, told me she knew where I lived, called me a racist, lesbian, other horrible names. I was fairly new and got scared, so I emailed Newsvine - copied/pasted her posts, because reporting her on the thread got no response from moderators. Some guy started emailing me doing the same thing plus sexual talk. So, emailed about that, too. I don't know what happened to them, but the emails directly from their Newsvine accounts stopped. I threatened NV with contacting my lawyer if they didn't take action. Usually, I let people's attacks on a thread roll off, but when they contact me via email to attack, that's too intrusive for me.

No worries about sharing your name. You're using a work comp. Thanks for the seeding tips. I tried once, but nobody came ... lol. What I really want to do is what you did with common sense. Write an opinion and let people have a go with adding theirs to mine. If nobody comes, you, Fed, Tom, and I can talk about food instead! Also, I don't know how to delete/collapse if I'm the originator.

If they gave prizes for the longest posts, I'd surely win. Good grief .... I talk too much!

Oh, and I want to thank y'all (smile) for reminding me that I haven't had corn bread or a corn muffin in ages. I'm drooling for some now.

Fed --- ha ha about yins. Glad to know that I'm not the only northerner in this group. Take your time with the recipe. If my pan/skillet isn't right, I'll not get a cast iron one until Christmas. My stainless steel one can go in the oven, but I know there's a big difference with cast iron. My grandmother had one ... wish I had it!

Oh ... had a miracle happen today. My meatloaf recipe (4x6 index card) has been MIA for 10 years. It's yummy, but I've been winging it from memory all these years - never came out right. Just found it today in an old cookbook that I'd tossed in the garage!

ya'll is the plural of you. Examples below.

                singular: Where are you going

                plural: Where are ya'll going

To put more southern in it contract the sentence:

                Where ya'll goin

Ohhhh ... so y'all DO say you. I thought that y'all was singular and plural - just take "you" and adding on. I'm starting to understand this foreign language. <wink> -- My first experience with NY/NJ "youse/yizz" was during an interim job I had years ago. On a Monday, a co-worker asked me, "Whad yizz do this weekend?" Quick thinking and I understood her. Nice girl, but not all cylinders firing in sync.

Glad we're on the same page about Christie and Rubio, although I have to read more about Rubio. Seems like he's like Christie, so I'm in. Every day in my regional newspaper brings more revelations about Christie and his spending cuts of abuses that liberals hate - ARC, NJEA and state union top execs, some state agencies with fed/state money but nobody's in the offices working, small town school superintendents earning >$230K plus bennies.

But, uninformed (or bitter) taxpayers think that hammering their children's teachers whose median earning is around $60K, 10 yrs experience and at least one Masters degree is the way to cut spending. They have no idea how much time and effort teachers give to their profession, continuing education, but most importantly to their students ... because all taxpayers know is "These people only work 6 hrs/day for 180 days."

Oh, my - I'm again way off-topic, but as you know, education is a topic that's personal to me. If we in NJ leave education spending in the hands of Sens. Lautenberg and Menendez, for example, my county would continue to be buying multi-million dollar microscopes for a handful of students and rewarding a (now) fired superintendent (Aloia) for that as well as his national/international travels and gourmet meals that we paid for. We can thank Republicans, and especially Chris Christie, for Aloia's and other corrupt people's ousters.

Hi, steelmagnolia -- Except for 4 years, I've always lived in NJ so I'm the only "real" northerner on this thread. It's been fun here though - ladogg doesn't mind that we're so off-topic. And these folks have been very kind to me in spite of my NJ accent. Mine isn't nearly as obvious as the "Jersey Shore" crowd though - at least I don't think it is! I'm learning about southern food, how to post a NV article, how to say y'all <smile>. I don't live in the areas most people associate with NJ. It's suburban, but it's not uncommon to see deer, wild turkeys, and black bears on my lawn and in the woods behind my house. When I first moved here, I thought this was "country" because there weren't any traffic lights.

NJ - to seed link there are 2 ways

                1) look on the black band in the heading for "seed links" then follow the intructions, copy the link to the seed page, make your comments and your rolling. hard way

                2) easy way - look at the left hand side of your page there is a box that says seed newsvine - click on it and it will create an app. that will seed newsvine from the article you are reading. it steps you through it and loads everything except you comment. if you notice most "seeder" just cut and paste part of the original, newsvine says "be careful doing this" copy right laws.

if you need more help just ask, by the way go to the bottom of your page i left some more comments that may be help full.

I'll try to work on something this weekend. I just saw your article about Islam today. Only 2 comments there. I'm surprised, because it's a hot-button topic. I've yet to read your links and I will read them before posting. I have more I can add if that's OK.

I find it nessaccary to be off newsvine for a while. My wife and son say this site has caused a change in me they do not like. I came on NV as a true middle of the road individual in politics and religion, It has not effected me in a positive manner. To all my friends it may only be a few days or could be longer, I must regain composure of myself. I am letting morons cause a riff in my personality and that is unconscionable. What some off these nut jobs on the left live with day in day out is not what I consider as living. They are almost all racist and see the world through jaded eyes, this is not a good thing, there hatred directed at white people are not founded and they will never admit Obama is a con artist no matter what he does that subvert the constitution of the US. I could handle this when I came here, now it is more of a job than a way to relax. My son has a worldcup shotgun match in Guadeloupe starting on Friday. I am going down to enjoy the match and some good Caribbean food and rum. When you find yourself in this situation take time to realize that this board is 99% bulls*t and very few of us understand how this country actually works and most of the posters are just minimum wage fry cooks dreaming of something better, pretending to be middle class, while getting to slam the rest of the world. It feeds their false ego's and makes them all most believe the crap they say.

My friends, I chose to be friends with you, because you all( each and everyone of you) seemed to be sincere. I did not accept fr from anyone I did not believe to be who they said they were. My comments are not directed at you. I feel the same way now as I did them about you guys.

I hope you have gained something from our association, I know I did. I hope I can sort this out in a few days. You all can e mail me if you want but I won't be coming here to check postings.

                    Good night my friends,

May you find peace and wisdom, and the tolerance I lost.

                    Tom Evans

ladogg --- Good to see you. You've been missed! With both you and Tom gone, NV just hasn't been the same.

What am I....chopped liver?? LOL I posted the recipe for the corny corn bread to your front page comments. Enjoy!!

I will try to post it here too....if ladogg doesnt mind or NV...Tom and he can enjoy it too!!

                        Corny Corn Bread

                        1 c self-rising corn meal

                        1 lb can creamed corn

                        2 eggs well beaten

                        ¼ c oil

                        1 c milk

                        ½ lb sharp cheddar-shredded

                        1 med onion, chopped

                        Pre heat oven to 350.

In a BLACK IRON SKILLET, pour in oil to preheat. Mix all but cheese and pour hot oil into mix and stir. Pour ½ mix into skillet and sprinkle on cheese and spoon remaining mix over cheese.

Bake at 350 for 45 min- 1hr and brown on top

                        Sit to set before slicing

Fed --- Awww, I didn't mean to ignore you! <hug to Fed> Thanks for the recipe - this sounds really good and will make it as soon as I get that skillet. Do you have any recommendations for good brands?

I don't think that Tom will be able to be back on NV. He was ousted ... and very unfairly. Email him for details if you want.

Actually, I'm getting kind of sick of so many people on NV bickering and name-calling even on nice stories' threads. I don't know if other venues are any better, because this is the only one I've ever used.

denver catwoman posted a really good comment about Obama's racial ancestry recently. I remember reading exactly what she posted somewhere else, but I can't remember where I read it. Obama's 4/8 Caucasian, 1/8 black, 3/8 Arab is what she said. I can't fully agree though, because "Arab" isn't a race of people .... it's an ethnicity.

But no matter how you slice it, it appears that he's more white than black. The joke's on the people who voted for the first "black" president! Interesting is that I read that either Coolidge or Harding had black in the family but that could be urban legend.

To you and all my other friends here ... Happy Thanksgiving!

Hmmm....will have to contact Tom. Such a nice guy, too bad. I read his family said he was changing and was taking a break.....NV is getting to be a PIA!! Unemployed liberals bitching about life....they got what they voted for!!

Well, I just took my corny cornbread out of the oven...forgot how good it was!! Any brand will do, just make sure you SEASON the pan or it will rust!!

Ok, so I seeded a link....beat ya to it! It is actually quite easy. Your FAVORITE subject....come see!!

Yes, Tom is a very nice guy, and from what he told me, NV shafted him. I'm convinced that moderators cater to liberals. I've read some very un-CoH liberal posts and reported them ... they're never reprimanded!! Indeed, people got what they voted for.

I really hope that Santa gives me a skillet. If not, I'll get one myself, and the first thing I'll make after seasoning it will be corny cornbread!

I posted an opinion article a couple of weeks ago, but nobody came to it so I deleted it. I'm going to look for yours right now! You've got me curious ... my favorite topic? Oh boy!

I emailed him, hope he answers. If not, you will have to tell me about the shaft. You are right, as long as you agree with the moderators and msnbc, you can say whatever you want, but God forbid you have a different opinion!! They can only thank themselves for the teaparty movement. All they wanted was a voice but they dont want to give it to them, so they are multiplying.

Yes, I do know what your favorite topic is....same as mine!!

Sorry, would have gotten there eventually, just really busy at work lately.
